Professional Program’s Mission, Objectives, and Goals 

Our mission is to foster an ethics of care for our cultural and natural environments through design, and to leverage the potential of design to creatively address the critical issues facing our planet: climate, social and racial inequity, health disparity, and a lack of access to vibrant landscapes. We are committed to service and collaboration, to science and art, to justice and well-being for all in Connecticut and beyond. We pursue education, research, and practice in alignment with these goals. Our aim is to make progress through practice and to do no harm.

On average, gives out ~$35,000 of aid each year through program-specific, department-specific, and college-level scholarships.

Student Retention, Graduation Rates, and Percentage of Students with Timely Graduation

• From 2021-2024, three-year student retention was 71%. This data was taken from UConn Budget, Planning, and Institutional Research reports. Due to our smaller program size, shifts in only a few of our students influence our retention and graduation rates.
• UConn’s overall four-year graduation rate is 74%.

Required and Optional Materials and Equipment

A laptop computer is required. Program computers are available to borrow. Funding is available on a needs basis. While it is expected that students will come to the program with a suitable computer, some laptops are available for student use. There are also computer labs in the College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources available for student use, including a Geographic Information Systems Lab. We will provide a computer for all students for whom purchasing a high-capacity laptop is not possible. Learn more about Computer Specifications for Landscape Architecture Program.

The Department covers printing, as well as drafting and modeling supplies to reduce the outside costs for students.

Supplemental and Experiential Learning Opportunities

Students attend conferences, including ASLA and LABASH. These opportunities are supported through program and student club fundraising. Students incur no out-of-pocket expenses.

Post-graduation Employment

Most graduates go on to work in professional landscape architecture and engineering firms in the State of Connecticut and beyond.
