Research Projects/Interests

Functional turfgrass areas are an important feature of our landscape. Diseases affecting these areas can reduce turf integrity limiting the ability of these surfaces to provide recreational, esthetic, and environmental services.

My research program seeks to minimize disease occurrence in turfgrass systems by investigating how management practices may influence host tolerance or conditions for pathogen growth and infection. Specific areas of focus include cultural management of golf and athletic field turf; optimization of naturally occurring and introduced biologicals for disease control, evaluating host resistance and plant protection materials.

Extension

My Extension program serves the professional green industry to identify issues related to existing and emerging turfgrass diseases and disease management in Connecticut and throughout New England. I conduct research to develop sustainable approaches for effective disease control based on integrated pest management concepts.

My program also assists professional turfgrass managers with disease diagnosis and recommendations through the Turfgrass Disease Diagnostic Center.
